NYC Study Tour

Fashionista, Uncategorized

In my last post I described the trip I was taking to New York City with the UNT Fashion Merchandising program, where we got to visit with multiple different brands within the fashion industry and got a chance to ask them questions about how to make a name for ourselves. The industry leaders were rich in advice about connecting with as many people as possible and doing as many internships as you can in different kinds of positions to make certain you are entering the job that is just right for you.

New York was especially hard to leave behind this time because every time that I go, it really does start to feel more and more like home. To make matters worse I went with a group of friends and got dressed in business attire to meet with fashion leaders, so it felt like we had made our own little life there. (If that makes sense… haha) It truly was an unforgettable week filled with laughter, good food, great friends, budding industry connections, and free gifts. This was the jumpstart that I needed to set my goals high and make it back to NYC with a point to prove. As I am writing this I have my LinkedIn profile up and a multitude of  tabs open in the search for a city internship next summer. Fingers crossed and working hard.

After unpacking my suitcase from Colorado, I repacked it again to head off to New York City. I traded in my hiking shoes for my more stylish sneakers. We walked from borough to borough, pretending like we were natives to the city. After having done most of the touristy sites on our last trip to NYC we opted to try out some activities that the locals prefer. We enjoyed local coffee shops, eateries, and abandoned subway tracks turned into parks. We even have some pictures to prove it, here look:

Then after our amazing four days in New York, we took the ferry over the New Jersey to relax at the beach. Which I must say was needed, my feet were bandaged beyond belief.

I hope to see you again soon, New York. I love you, I really do.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Uncategorized

This weekend Chloe and I took a road trip to Manhattan, Kansas to visit our sweet friend Kerrigan. We decided to make several stops along the way to add more adventure to the long eight hour drive. Only 45 minutes or so into the drive we stumbled upon Winstar World Casino to “travel the world in just under five minutes.” It was a nice way to stretch our legs a bit. For lunch we stopped in Oklahoma City to eat at a quaint barbecue restaurant. We had a craving for some good old-fashioned smoked brisket sandwiches. I knew barbecue was the souths forte, but this was some of the best barbecue we have ever had. After lunch it was non-stop driving till we got there. Upon our arrival Kerrigan showed us some of her favorite local eateries from a cute little taco shop to a donut truck, but after a long day of travel we decided to turn in a little early so we would be well rested before we headed to Kansas City in the morning. I was not expecting to love Kansas City as much as I did. The architecture and the grittiness of the city was amazing. It was historic and modern all at once. We went shopping in The Plaza, sipped coffee at Kaldi’s Coffee Roasting Co. and finally lunched at Grand Street Cafe. Before heading back to Kansas State we made our last stop at Liberty Memorial to get a good view of Kansas City as a whole. This last stop turned out to be our favorite stop of the day.

Kansas thank you for having us! We’ll be back soon!

Lucerne, Switzerland

Uncategorized

Lucerne is a small town nestled up in the mountains of Switzerland. I have never been in a place so picture perfect. The mountains are snow-capped, the water is so blue, and the air is so crisp and clean. Although there was a huge language barrier, everyone was really friendly and helpful when we were typical tourists and need to be pointed in the right direction. This quaint town also had amazing street style. All the ladies were dressed in simple clothing with clean lines and neutral colors. While their clothing was tailored to perfection it was all oversized, long blazers and baggy pants. No one was wearing heels either, they just wore chic sneakers. I fell in love with almost every single outfit that I saw. As for the men I honestly don’t think I saw any of them in casual clothing, they wore tailored suits and loafers. Swiss gentlemen are not hard on the eyes at all… beards and man-buns paired with a TAILORED SUIT… yes please!! Already want to go back..

The crazy thing is that I didn’t edit these photos at all… IT IS JUST THAT BEAUTIFUL

NYFW Fall 2015

Uncategorized

This NYFW was definitely a chilly one. Which fortunately for me means lot and lots of amazing coats. Splattered across the streets of New York City were fashionistas from all parts of the world. Some of the main trends I noticed on the streets this brisk winter week were: oversized everything, from coats, pants, pantsuits, sweaters, and finally scarves; and despite the freezing temperatures I saw a surprising amount crop tops/bare legs; and of course leather and fur. My favorite street style looks this season mostly include oversized wool coats, leather, exotic prints and fur. This fashion weeks street style left me with some major coat envy. As for the runways of Fall 2015 this season I was thoroughly impressed. My personal favorite collections were Tibi, Kate Spade(always), and finally J. Crew. In the pictures below you’ll see the fabulous Kendall Jenner wearing the most extravagent fur coat and Karlie Kloss looking flawless in the sparkly floor length gown. J. Crews whole collection was just absolutely spot on, I want everything!! BCBG sent some amazing coats down the runway with some crazy embellishments. This Kate Spade collection was my favorite to date. The use of plaids, patterns, bows, and fur made the collection very cohesive and unique. The Tibi Fall 2015 collection really surprised me. The simplicity of most of the garments meant that it had to be executed down to the finest detail to achieve the clean lines of the looks. In the end it was the pastels that really grabbed my attention, all around incredible collection. I’ll take one of everything please.

I also attached some photographs of my favorite street style looks, that also show some of the trends I spoke about earlier, enjoy! More of my favorite fashion moments of NYFW can be found on my Pinterest; Bailey Womack

I hope one day to be in attendance, but for now the pictures, snapchat stories, and social media posts are as good as it gets.

Street style is my absolute favorite part of NYFW. So much diversity and uniqueness is seen on the streets of any major fashion capitol. Which makes narrowing down my favorite looks VERY hard. All my favorite fashion bloggers are in the same place and even snap a few pictures together, making instagram my go-to app for the week. Some of favorite fashion bloggers are pictured above, Leandra Medine(Man Repeller), Jamie Chung(what the Chung), and Nicole Warne(Gary Pepper Girl). Also pictured is Olivia Palermo, Gala Gonzales, and Miroslava Duma(showing us how to make pregnancy chic). Enjoy the beauty of these photos!!

LA travels day 2

Uncategorized

Today at FIDM we learned that Fashion is also a form of art – I already knew that, but still a good reminder. We ended up up taking a regular XL white T-shirt and transforming it into our own interpretation of wearable art. It turned out pretty decent for the amount of experience we had, I think. After that class we went to product management and made a sort of inspiration board, we had the choice to do carnival or to give a try at gothic. Carnival ended up being what we chose, our board was one of the best in the class. Last class of day one was Trends. I went into camp knowing I was very interested in learning more about trends so this class already had some appeal to me. As we walked into the class we were greeted by a cute little French woman in the most adorable outfit, a black bubble skirt paired with a light pink blouse –tucked in, and the cutest black pumps. The class itself was very exciting and interesting, it’s amazing how quickly trends are cycled in//out. I had such an insightful and delightful insight to what the fashion industry is really about. After all of that FIDM goodness we drove down to Seal Pier to have a picnic on the beach we sipped on pink lemonade and snacked on french macarons, sammies, mangos, and pita chips all while reading great books and magazines. It was very therapeutic and relaxing, just what we needed after such a long day.

All for now,

B

Internship

my workspace is so cute –photo by steph

So beyond excited to start my new internship with Steph Grant Photography, I know I will learn so much from her. Her photos are so unique and fabulous. I hope to be half as good as her one day! Although only having met her briefly today, I know she has a wonderful personality and is very optimistic. If you scroll through some of her photos you can see she really has a traveling soul. We have this in common — we also are both caffeine fanatics. I am so thrilled that I will be able to work with her, and grow into being a better photographer.

eager to begin,
